Problem Solving Strategies that you will engage in
Extending Community (ask people around you for ideas) - students will not only engage in some research themselves, but they will also have a chance to communicate with classmates and hopefully parents to brainstorm some great ideas for their projects.
Incubation (take time to think and reflect) - Having this project unfold over a longer period of time will help the students be able to reflect on their ideas and maybe even change ideas a long the way. It is important to give the students time to reflect and really think about what they want to do.
Scaffolding (need help, ask your teacher) - I have set this project up in steps so the students don't get to far ahead on me, and it doesn't provide them much opportunity for procrastination. I like the idea of scaffolding to keep the students on track. I have told the students to try it on their own first, research some help and if they still can't figure it out to come ask me.
Ideation - I believe that brainstorming and ideation will go hand in hand. Through brainstorming, students will develop new understanding, develop new ideas and overall be able to create a powerful message.
Brainstorming- This kind of relates to extending community, however I have set the students up in groups so they have a chance to brianstorm with each other. Students will bounce ideas off of each other in order to great the most meaningful final project.
Cooperative Learning- Again, having the student in groups will help them brainstorm, extended community as well as learn cooperatively. Students are encouraged to share ideas and research with each other on the blog. This will help students learn the software and solve problems before running to me for help.
