Public Service Announcement Assignment Outline
A well made PSA will motivate people to take action to improve their communities, families and their own lives. Effective PSAs will attract attention, get the audience thinking, make the message personally relevant, believable and interesting to the target audience.
Activity 1 (No Credit)
What are some past PSA that you remember for having an impact about how your think or act? You must answer this question before moving onto activity 2.
Activity 2 (No Credit)
What will make an effective PSA? In class, we will divide into groups of 4 and brainstorm qualities and ideas that will help you make an effective PSA. Please hand in your ideas. (You will be assigned groups when we get to this section as a class, please see the white board for group lists) This part must be completed before moving on to activity 3.
Activity 3 (10%)
Watch the examples of PSA that I have listed. You should be brainstorming alone about possible PSA's that you might want to create and what elements you will have to add to make them effective.
A good PSA campaign focuses on service to the public. Make sure your campaign idea deals with a significant public problem for which a solution can be offered through advertising.

Make sure your PSA can answer the following questions:
- Target Audience: Whom do I want to speak to? Are there any barriers to understanding the message?
- Message: What is the proposed message? What do I want the person who is watching this to understand?
- Action Step: What is the call to action? What do I want the person to do? What can an individual do in the home or community? How will the action solve the problem?
- Significance of Issue to the Public: What is the proposed issue? Describe the problem and why it is important to the public? Are there any statistics involved which might be useful?
Actitivy 4 (10%)
You are now going to create a weebly website with 4 different tabs - Brainstorm ideas, PSA overview, PSA questions and Peer Review.
Brainstorm ideas tab - Please upload all the ideas that your group has come up with. I would like you to expand on each idea and tell me why it would be part of an effective PSA.
PSA Overview- Please tell me what PSA you have choosen and why you think it will impact your target audience
PSA Questions - On this tab, you are required to answer the above questions (Activity 3 Questions 1-3)
Peer Review - Please add a contact form for your peers to write a feedback forum to you. You will also be required to hand these reviews in with your final PSA so please make sure you make it easy for your peers to review.

Activity 5 (15%)
At this point, you will get back into your groups and show your group members your ideas. You will log onto their own personal websites and review the site and their 4 tabs of ideas. You are then required to write them a review. You will be marked on this review (please see rubric) so evaluate by asking specific questions and speaking about specific ideas. "This is great" will not get you any marks! - What parts do you think are great and why? You will be marked out of 5 for each peer review. Please see rubric. NOTE: These are very simple marks. Please review your peers with thoughtfulness.
Actitity 6 (60%)
Now it is time to create your Vuvox. We will be working on Vuvox together as a class, but you can also find some more resources under the "Vuvox" tab. If you are missing from class the day we walk through Vuvox, it is your responsiblity to catch up and learn the program. Please see the final rubric to see what is required of you. This will be the bulk of your mark.
Activity 7 (5%)
You are no required to upload your Vuvox onto your website. You will simple get 5 marks for adding it properly or 0 for not. Make sure your link is working by asking peers to check before you hand it in
